At the age of 13, a boy celebrates its Bar-Mitzvah. He becomes an adult in the Jewish community and can be part of a minyan, a quorum of 10 adults.
On a Monday or a Thursday morning, he will wear the tallit and tefillin for the first time in the synagogue. He will be called to the Torah and read from it on that day as well as on the following Shabbat. He can also lead services or part of it. At the end of the prayer, it is customary to deliver a speech connected to the parashah.
